Dan Golinsky

October 10, 1952- November 12, 2016

Born on a United States Air Force Base in Nagoya, Japan, excitement followed Dan Golinsky everywhere he went. Dan spent his formative years in Montgomery, Alabama, the middle child of loving parents Leon Golinsky and Sara Franco Golinsky, where he left his mark clear on those around him. Together with older brother Billy and younger brother Larry, Dan grew up surrounded by loving family, who urged happiness, pride and determination above all else. Dan used his time wisely, working to become a star player on the high school football team and winning elections to make him president of his high school. After high school, Dan attended the University of Alabama, where he was a proud brother of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, eventually attending the University of Alabama Law School as well.

Dan had a deep passion for real estate, an industry in which he worked for the better part of forty years. From New York to San Antonio to eventually Miami, Dan continued to leave his mark on the landscape around him, with projects such as the Regal Cinema on Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road standing as a testament to his hard work and determination and bringing unprecedented value to the cities he called home. Through real estate, Dan also fostered a number of meaningful relationships with peers and mentors, many of whom he would call his closest friends.

Outside of work, Dan had a number of interests. Dan was a voracious reader and a hungry intellect, always educating himself on something new, as he could find a deeper meaning and purpose in almost anything. A loyal Alabama football fan, Dan would never miss a game on TV, typically watching them with father Leon and the rest of the family. Dan also loved skiing with his brothers, going on a variety of “adventures” with his kids Evan and Marlee and hosting parties at the beloved Golinsky family home in Coconut Grove, a home where he lived for almost thirty years.

Above all else, Dan cherished his personal relationships with friends and family. Dan was deeply committed to his family, taking care of his parents as they aged and spending time with his loyal brothers. Dan loved his wife Myrna of twenty years, and the two beautiful children they had who become their world. Dan was also blessed to have a large group of loyal friends, who could count on him for advice and counsel and who he knew always had his back.

The world lost one of the good ones all too soon, but his soul and his wisdom lives on in all who knew him, particularly his kids. Everyone who knew Dan has a unique memory with him, yet all of these stories revolving around his passion and determination in one way or another. Dan will forever be missed as no one can quite possibly fill the void he left, but by retelling his stories and living life the way Dan would have, to the fullest, we can carry his legacy from generation to generation.
